Dr. Jorge Acosta is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He was raised in El Paso, TX., and attended Baylor University for undergraduate education. Dr. Jorge Acosta completed medical school in the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston, TX., after which he attended and successfully completed general surgery residency at the Texas Tech Health Science Center at El Paso, TX. After completing residency in 2003, he underwent additional training in Bariatric Surgery and Minimally Invasive Surgery at the Univerisity of Louisville in Louisville, KY.
Dr. Acosta is Board Certified in General Surgery. He serves as medical director for the Del Sol Bariatric center, and medical director for the Las Palmas Living Donor Renal Transplant Program. His areas of interest are Bariatric surgery and antireflux surgery (including TIF) as well as minimally invasive (laparoscopic and robotic procedures) including repair of different anatomical hernias. He is one of the most experienced bariatric surgeons in the southwest. He received several honors and awards including the 2007 Doctor of the year award by Del Sol Medical Center.
He has also received the 2012 Healthgrades award for top 5% in General Surgery nationwide and has been named to the 2013-2019 Texas Super Doctors by Texas Monthly. He also received the 2015-2020 Castle Connolly Top Doctor award in surgery. Dr Jorge Acosta is an active member and of the American College of Surgeons, the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery, the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons and the Texas Medical Association.
